Volunteer Piloting in ÖJAB Senior Home in Vienna

On 24 November, young people from Slovakia had the opportunity to get a taste of volunteering with elderly people at the ÖJAB nursing home in Neumargareten. The pre-Christmas atmosphere was created by singing together, home-baked biscuits and waffles. In this way, young and old came in contact and enjoyed the afternoon together.

Roundtable Event in Bratislava

On 22 September 2022, an international exchange on intergenerational encounter took place in Bratislava. Almost 50 people from Austria, Slovakia and Hungary participated. There were keynotes from various social organisations, projects and initiatives working in intergenerational encounter. There was a lively exchange around the needs of older people, carers and volunteers especially in times (after) the pandemic.

Volunteer Training in Vienna

ÖJAB hosted a training for volunteers in Vienna from 25.03-26.03.2022.

17 motivated people from Austria and Slovakia came to Vienna to participate in the Co-AGE Volunteers training. Two experienced trainers introduced them in specific skills necessary for the work with elderly people, but also social skills generally needed for voluntary work. The training combined theoretic input and practical activities. The second part of the training took part in Bratislava the next weekend.

Join our cross-border youth training in Vienna and Bratislava!

Our Slovakian-Austrian joint project was established to promote solidarity between generations and to support young people in their voluntary commitment with the senior citizens.

The heart of the Co-AGE Volunteers project is a training for promoting intergenerational solidarity and supporting voluntary commitment, designed particularly for young people.

Focus of the Co-AGE Volunteers core course:

  1. The Art of Communication – participants achieve master competencies for perfect performance in the field of intergenerational communication. Furthermore, they learn how to use communication as the “key for success” at work and in life by training skills like dialogue, giving and taking feedback, intercultural communication, and the power of non-verbal communication.
  1. Teambuilding – a strong team is the foundation of a high-performing business. Participants learn all about team phases, roles, and positions to assure a triumphant performance as a project leader and for your future career.
  1. Conflict management – conflict management is the practice of identifying and handling conflicts sensibly, reasonably, and efficiently. By joining this course, participants learn about their personal conflict style, conflict dynamics, and how conflict transformation works.
  1. Crisis management – can be regarded as the art of dealing with sudden and unexpected events. As crisis management practices are engaged before, during, and after a crisis, the focus of the training is to improve personal and social skills to secure professional performance.
  1. Resilience – this is the ability to accommodate difficult situations. Participants learn to tap into their strengths and use their support systems.
  1. Motivation – all human actions need a form of inspiration. Driving forces can be biological, emotional, social, or cognitive. Which driving force made young people join this course, and how can they motivate others as a leader?
  1. Dementia – young people learn about different stages of dementia. They learn how to interact and communicate with the affected person and their social environment.
  1. Activities with older people – during this active workshop participants learn different approaches to motivate older people to become involved and strengthen the bonds between young and old.
  1. Having fun with similar minded people and collect valuable experiences in the field of international volunteering!

The language of the training is English.

In order to promote exchange and encounters between older people and young volunteers, ÖJAB organised an intergenerational event as part of the Co-AGE Volunteers SK-AT project. A perfect venue for this was the ÖJAB-Haus Neumargareten: a senior citizens’ and nursing home located in Vienna-Meidling.

Live Partner Meeting in Bratislava

On 7.10.2021 all project partners met in Bratislava. Here was the opportunity to look back on the milestones achieved so far and to plan the tasks ahead. The meeting was very successful and took place in a pleasant atmosphere

First Live Partner Meeting

On 21.07.2021, the four project partners of Co-AGE Volunteers had the opportunity to meet at the project partner ÖJAB in Vienna. Due to COVID-19 this was the first live meeting of all project partners.
In a two-hour meeting, the status quo of the project was discussed at project management level, project implementation level and all further planning for Q3 & Q4 2021 were done.
It was a very good feeling to meet all partners face to face after half a year and to exchange ideas.
